At the Tavern Uptown in Denver, a pitch for beer. (Photo by William Porter)

Some time shortly after Super Bowl 50 winds up, hopefully in a blizzard of orange-and-blue confetti, the Tavern Uptown will close its doors for a while. It will be back, the owners assure us, but nestled within what is intended to be an with retail shops in the mix, too.

Tavern regulars are already bemoaning the looming departure of the popular watering hole and weekend sports bar, which sits at the southwest corner of East 17th Avenue and Pearl Street. But something else that will also be missed: The chalkboard signs that are routinely posted on the sidewalk in front of the establishment.

Take this one, which went up Monday afternoon. “Beer helps you do stupid things faster!”

Who knew?

The sign joins a host of other ones that the Tavern has mounted over the past couple of years. So where do we get our daily dose of wisdom come 2016?
