Candidates for Thompson School District Board of Education discussing the pay for performance policy as well as managing the relationship between the board and teachers on Oct. 6, in Loveland. (Trevor L Davis, Loveland Reporter-Herald)

Re: “Overturn judge’s ruling on Thompson School District,” Sept. 30 editorial.

Your editorial misses the mark about what constitutes controlling our own destinies in the Thompson School District.

The “reform” members of our school board campaigned deceptively with outside money, claimed falsely that they had no agenda, then proceeded to sabotage negotiations by ignoring their own procedures. The judge had no choice, based on the evidence, to rule that the board had not negotiated in good faith.

The lack of ethical behavior, and the influx of dollars from organizations with no ties to our district in order to ramrod an agenda that our community doesn’t want, is the part of the story that you are completely missing.

I am a parent and a conservative who has been appalled by the dictatorial behavior of our board. If they could support their ideas and demands with evidence, I would support them, but they cannot.

Jeanette Minnich, Loveland
