A gastrointestinal virus spreading through a Weld County elementary school sickened 166 students on Friday, district officials say.
The Greeley-Evans School District 6 says the outbreak at Shawsheen Elementary School has left kids with stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever.
“The Weld County Department of Health and Environment is saying that anyone with these symptoms needs to stay home 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided,” the district said in a news release.
Health officials told the district the virus causing the outbreak is likely the highly contagious norovirus, known as the stomach flu.
