Drivers trying to navigate the Denver metro area Sunday will encounter road closures associated with the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.
Closures will extend into Sunday afternoon. Geographically, the closures extend from Thornton south through downtown Denver.
More than 20 streets will be affected by the marathon, half marathon, and 10K and 5K courses.
Among the closures: 17th Avenue from Lincoln Street to Colorado Boulevard; 14th Avenue from Bannock Street to Broadway; and 15th Street from Wazee Street to Market Street and Cleveland Place to Colfax Avenue.
Race organizers put together alternate access routes for motorists trying to make their way through the congested spots.
Thornton neighborhoods east of Riverdale Road can be accessed by heading west to Colorado Boulevard or using East 104th Avenue to Colorado.
Farmington neighborhoods can be accessed by heading west on East 100th Avenue to Colorado Boulevard or traveling east on East 100th.
Downtown drivers south of Blake Street are encouraged to avoid the area from 7 to 8:45 a.m.
North of Blake Street, drivers can use 20th Street to access Interstate 25.
