Colorado Springs police are investigating after a man told investigators he was carjacked by a stranger Monday night whom he was giving a ride.

Police say the encounter happened about 9:30 p.m. on the 6000 block of East Woodmen Road, near St. Francis Hospital, where the man had driven the stranger.

“Upon pulling into the parking lot of St. Francis, the rear passenger pulled a gun and indicated the car would not be returned,” police said in a news release. “The suspect then fired a single shot at the front windshield. There were no injuries.”

The victim jumped out of his vehicle, a silver 2015 Toyota Corolla, and the suspect fled.

Police say the victim was also giving another stranger a ride too, but not indicate if that passenger was involved in the carjacking.

Police ask anyone who sees the Toyota, displaying Arizona license plates BEC7796, to call authorities.
