Classical Music: Colorado Symphony goes all-Strauss

Tonight-Saturday. Colorado Symphony Orchestra conductor Andrew Litton has a way with the music of Strauss. Litton gets the depth of composer’s ideas, a legendary mix of the serious and sublime, the comic and the dramatic. This weekend’s all Strauss program has another enticing attraction: a star turn by Principal Cellist Silver Ainomäe, among the CSO’s true stars. Ainomäe will be featured on one of Strauss’ most-popular works, “Don Quixote,” inspired by the writings of Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes. The program is rounded out with “Don Juan” and the “Suite from Der Rosenkavalier,” borrowed from the composer’s still popular opera. 7:30 p.m. tonight and Saturday, Boettcher Concert Hall, Denver Performing Arts Complex. $29-$89. or 303-623-7876
