BRIGHTON — An Adams County deputy has been fired after he was arrested this week on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty, Sheriff Michael McIntosh said Friday.

“I’m outraged,” McIntosh said during an afternoon news conference at the sheriff’s office headquarters in Brighton.

Brandon Donahue, 25, posted $10,000 bond after his Wednesday arrest, authorities said, and his case has been filed with county prosecutors.

Court records show Donahue has been charged with sexual assault, a Class 4 felony.

The alleged assault happened Sept. 26 and sheriff’s investigators say the victim reported it on Oct. 9. The former deputy admitted to “sexual misconduct on-duty” in the case, according the sheriff’s office.

McIntosh said the deputy, who served in the department’s patrol division, knew the victim, but he declined to elaborate. Few details in the alleged assault were released.

Donahue was hired by the sheriff’s office in July 2013 and had no previous internal affairs investigations, McIntosh said. Colorado Bureau of Investigation records show he has no criminal record in the state.

The sheriff’s office says Donahue was trained under their auspices, but did not have information on any prior employment.

“His actions in no way reflect the professional standards we have established in this office,” McIntosh said.

The case was investigated by sheriff’s office detectives, who arrested Donahue.

Court records in the case have been sealed. Donahue is due back in court on Wednesday.
