No tricks here, just lots of treats. Halloween can be frightfully expensive, so here are some ways for frugal families to scare up savings.
Peanuts party
Little ghosts and goblins can enjoy Halloween with Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and Snoopy at Bass Pro Shops daily through Oct. 31. Festivities include arts and crafts and pictures taken with life-size cutouts of the Peanuts gang. The first 100 kiddos each day to have their picture taken get a free flashing necklace. On both Halloween eve and Halloween night, the fun starts at 6 p.m. with a costume parade and trick-or-treating throughout the store. Parents get the best treat — the fact that it’s all free. Times vary by day, so check first. Bass Pro Shops is in Northfield at Stapleton, north of I-70 at the Quebec/Northfield exit. basspro.com/halloween
Bargain “boo-ritos”
Even ghosts don’t like an empty belly. Don a costume with an unnecessary accessory (think pirate with a clown nose) and stop by Chipotle on Oct. 31 for a burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos for $3. The tasty offer is available from 5 p.m. to closing, leaving plenty of time to haunt the town. boorito.com
Petrifying pancakes
Kids will flip over this sweet treat. On Oct. 30, IHOP offers a free “Scary Face” pancake to kids (12 and younger) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at participating locations. The “face” is an oversize buttermilk pancake, with a whipped topping mouth and strawberry nose, served with two mini cookies and candy corn. ihop.com
Get corny
Sonic Drive-In offers corn dogs for 50 cents each all day on Halloween at participating locations. There’s no limit, so your entire brood can get corny and each enjoy a dog or two for just a few bucks. Add-ons are extra. sonicdrivein.com
Goblins gobble free
Families dining out over the Halloween weekend can scare up some savings at Mimi’s Café. Kids (12 and under) in costume eat free at the restaurant on Oct. 30 and 31, with the purchase of an adult entrée. The offer requires a coupon, which can found at tinyurl.com/mimis-halloween-coupon. Limit two kids meals per each adult entrée. mimiscafe.com
