The Broncos released defensive tackle Marvin Austin on Tuesday, two months after he was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Austin signed with the Broncos in 2014 and finished with 12 tackles in 15 games after a back injury the year prior nearly ended his career.

Austin struggled through the Broncos’ voluntary workouts this past summer though, and didn’t practice since Aug. 3 because of a groin injury and conditioning issues.

Rookie Darius Kilgo quickly moved ahead of him on the depth chart and, on Aug. 20, Austin to clear a roster spot for tight end Jake Murphy, a waiver claim from Cincinnati who was later released.

Drafted by the Giants out of North Carolina in 2011, Austin, 26, spent two seasons in New York, where he played in only eight games but won a Super Bowl ring in 2012. Brief stints with the Dolphins and Cowboys in 2013 followed before he landed in Denver.
