BROOMFIELD — An astronaut taking a selfie peered out at Jack Painter from the screen of his new Chromebook as the Broomfield High School freshman familiarized himself with the device.

Students were told Thursday to personalize the newest tool in their educational arsenal — a laptop they will use for schoolwork and keep once they graduate.

“It’s really awesome,” Jack said. “Especially keeping it for the rest of your life.”

He and about 400 other freshmen lined up Thursday morning as faculty members and Boulder Valley School District staffers passed out the Web-based laptops.
