Re: “Don’t call athletes ‘heroes,’ ” Oct. 28 letter to the editor.

Letter-writer Jarvis D. Ryals’ complaint about the misuse of the word “hero” is accurate and appropriate. The overuse and misuse of the word “hero” is more than a slight to true heroes — it is disrespecting them and diminishing their efforts and achievements. You simply cannot put a baseball player who hits a fly ball to score the winning run in the same category with any person who risks his or her life to save another.
