A Lakewood police motorcycle officer was seriously injured Thursday in a two-vehicle crash.

The wreck happened near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Pierce Street, police said. The officer, a nine-year veteran, was speeding with his lights and sirens activated to assist another officer when the collision happened, said Steve Davis, a police spokesman.

“It appears that driver was trying to move to the side of the road when he heard the siren,” Davis said.

The officer lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Davis said he is expected to survive.

“He’s pretty banged up,” Davis said.

Davis says alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, but authorities will test the car’s driver just in case. It was no clear Thursday if charges would be filed in the case.

“It’s pretty early in the investigation,” Davis said.
