Mark Robinson, Highlands Ranch’s football coach, has been suspended for Friday’s game against rival Mountain Vista.

The veteran coach was cited for illegal communication with his players during last week’s game against ThunderRidge. The Falcons won the CLass 5A game 21-19, but Robinson was in electronic communication with his quarterback within 9 yards of the end zone, a state violation.

Falcons principal Chris Page, athletic director Bruce Wright and Robinson did not return phone calls or e-mails for comment over two days. However, Paula Hans, Public Information Director for the Douglas County School District, confirmed the violation.

Highlands Ranch was 3-5 overall, 2-2 in the Continental North League, heading into Friday’s action. Mountain Vista was tied at 2-1 in the league Regis Jesuit, which was to host Fruita Monument on Friday.

Should the Falcons make the 32-team playoff bracket that is to be released on Sunday or if they are given a 10th game for non-qualifiers, Robinson will be back heading the Falcons, Hans said.

Class 5A is in its final round of regular-season play.

Robinson is in his second year heading the Falcons after 16 ion command of Lakewood, his alma mater. Robinson led the Tigers to the 2011 final and won a state championship as a player in 1985.
