ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A Snowmass man has pleaded guilty to attacking a man in Basalt while making disparaging remarks about Mexicans and President Barack Obama.

The Aspen Times reports (http://bit.ly/1GV3blr ) that 47-year-old Jerry Lloyd Cunico pleaded guilty Monday in Eagle County District Court to second-degree assault and bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury.

Police say Cunico was arrested Aug. 23 after he opened the car door of the victim and started punching him. Cunico is accused of yelling obscenities about minorities during the attack. The victim was sitting in his car scratching lottery tickets before Cunico opened his door. There is no known link between the two men.

The victim has returned to work, but is still receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Cunico is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 11.
