“Puritanism,” H.L. Mencken famously decreed, is “the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.”

Happy betting on fantasy sports, for example. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is so concerned that residents of his state are having fun betting with online fantasy operators FanDuel and DraftKings that he is seeking to shut them down as illegal activities. His cease-and-desist orders claim the companies are involved in a nefarious scheme to “evade the law and fleece sports fans across the country.”

Fleece them, mind you. Here is the ultimate Father-Knows-Best bureaucrat, decreeing that adults are not competent to spend their entertainment dollars as they see fit.
