Thursday. “If throwing your body in front of a wrecking ball is your idea of a hot time, you might want to stop by the Mayan Theatre,” Chris Citron told The Denver Post in summer 1984, shortly before the historic Art Deco movie house was slated to be demolished. More than three decades later, Citron’s Friends of the Mayan will celebrate the gorgeously preserved architectural gem Nov. 19 to mark its 85th birthday. Events begin at 6:15 p.m. and include proclamations by Mayor Michael Hancock and Gov. John Hickenlooper, prizes, music and treats, followed by a showing of the honorable “Sunset Boulevard” at 7 p.m. with film critic and scholar Howie Movshovitz. “Sunset” screening also at 2 p.m. 110 Broadway. Tickets: $8.50. 303-744-6799 or .
