FORT COLLINS — Fort Collins police have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his mother in the neck Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Contreras also faces allegations of first-degree assault in the altercation outside the Larimer County Courthouse.

The stabbing happened about 1 p.m. in the 200 block of West Oak Street.

Police say Contreras’ mother is expected to survive. She was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment.

Contreras is being held at the Larimer County jail, investigators say.
