
Wheat Ridge police have arrested a 26-year-old woman in connection with a fatal shooting at a Walgreens parking lot, police say.
Wenona Sims Begay is being held for in the death of Guled Abdullahi Ige, 24, of Glendale, according to a Wheat Ridge police news release.
Begay turned herself in to police at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after seeing a picture of herself in the news media. Police had been looking for her as a possible witness in the homicide.
During an interview it became clear that she was involved in the fatal shooting at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday outside the Walgreens at 4401 Wadsworth Blvd. Police said there was an altercation prior to the shooting.
Police released photographs to the media of a woman seen leaving the store at the time of the shooting.
Begay is being held in the Jefferson County jail, according to the news release.
Police are still searching for a second suspect, but have not released that person’s name for investigative reasons.
Authorities have also recovered a vehicle they had identified as the suspect’s car. It had been reported as stolen.
Begay has a history of convictions for mostly minor crimes dating to 2009, when she was convicted of a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.
In 2014, she was was arrest for felony menacing. She later enter a plea bargain in which that charge was dismissed and she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault. She served a 90-day jail sentence and was released on probation.
In March of 2014, she was arrested for allegedly violating a restraining order.
