VERMILION, Ohio — An Ohio police officer who was fired after wearing a pro-marijuana button on his police jacket says he’ll sue if necessary to get his job back.

Vermillion police Capt. Michael Reinheimer was fired by the northern Ohio city this week. The city’s mayor said Reinheimer was fired for several rules violations, including wearing a button urging legalized marijuana on his police jacket over civilian clothes during an auction earlier this month.

Reinheimer tells that he will appeal his firing to the city’s Civil Service Commission. If he’s unsuccessful there, he plans to sue.

He says he supports marijuana legalization because his wife has epilepsy and he read that marijuana can be effective in preventing seizures when prescription medication is not.
