Members of Colorado State Patrol salute during Monday’s memorial service for Trooper Jaimie Jursevics, who was killed Nov. 15 in Interstate 25 by a suspected drunken driver. (Kathryn Scott, The Denver Post)

When I left my house Monday morning, it soon became clear as I traveled west on Hampden Boulevard to Interstate 25 that the funeral for fallen state Trooper Jaimie Jursevics was occurring. In addition to numerous unmarked law enforcement, state troopers and other vehicles in the procession, I witnessed a larger law enforcement caravan heading south on I-25. The caravan included a great number of metro area municipal law enforcement vehicles and motorcycles as well as several Denver EMS ambulances.

It was awe-inspiring to see such an outpouring of solidarity for Jursevics and support for her family. It also served as a reminder of the sacrifice our law enforcement and first responders make, risking their health, safety and even their lives to protect us and our communities. Thank you.

Stacey B. Figel, Denver
