The Isis Theater has been in Aspen for more than a century, and its parent company has no intentions of changing its name despite a terror network bearing the same identity. (Jeremy Wallace, The Aspen Times)
Re: “Add Aspen’s Isis Theater to list of businesses unwilling to yield name,” Nov. 24 business news story.
During World War I, sauerkraut was renamed “liberty cabbage” to rebuke its German origin and to make a statement of where the nation stood. Good sense returned after the war and a favored, albeit pungent, dish reclaimed its rightful name. Now itap ISIS’s turn to be stigmatized. Letap learn from history and leave theaters, bookstores, and other users of the name alone. Instead we should call the terrorist group Daesh or just make up some other colorful name that better reflects their loathsome anti-God, anti-Muhammad, anti-humanity nature. I’d suggest one here, but this is a family newspaper.
