Re: “San Bernardino shooting: 14 dead, more than a dozen wounded,” Dec. 3 news story.
Another day, another mass shooting. I am writing this letter because we cannot continue to normalize gun violence. Growing up in middle class Denver, guns touched my life early on. When I was 15, a 13-year-old friend died from a gun. At 17, my first boyfriend died from a gun. As an 18-year-old, I watched in disbelief as boys younger than myself shot up Columbine, where many friends attended school. Now I am 35. Things have only gotten worse.
After San Bernardino, after Colorado Springs, we will search for motives. We will read about the shooters. We will wring our hands and post Facebook updates. And none of that matters. Instead of shaking your head, do something. Call your senator. Call an elected official who backs the NRA. Support the Brady campaign. Write letters. Support the presidentap Gun Violence Prevention page.
Gun violence is preventable. Letap get to work.

This letter was published in the Dec. 4 edition. There was another mass shooting Wednesday, this one in San Bernardino, Calif. Shooters apparently were well-prepared, including their getaway. Whether it was the work of domestic or other groups, more innocent people died for no reason.
Our country is in dire trouble. History repeats. Just look at the ancient kingdoms. Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome were not defeated by an outside enemy; they all collapsed from internal problems — political, moral and financial reasons. Where we go from here, I do not profess to know, but I do know that America will join our ancestors. May God help and bless America.
