CafeWell Concierge by Welltok

Turning personal healthcare choices into a game — and using big data — has helped Denver-based Welltok attract another $45 million from investors, the company plans to announce Thursday.

The new funds will partly pay for Welltok’s acquisition of healthcare communication company Silverlink, which it also plans to announce Thursday. Money will also be used for “ongoing product development and market expansion,” the company said in a statement. Terms of the purchase were not released.

Welltok, which had previouslyfrom investors since its 2009 inception, said the new funding comes from venture firms , Singapore Economic Development Board and Flare Capital plus existing investors.

Two years ago, it and used IBM’s machine-learning Watson technology to create the . The app can read million of pages of data in seconds and serve up a personalized report for the user.

Welltok’s CafeWell technology is used by companies to encourage employees to eat better, exercise and make decisions to live a healthier life. Incentives and rewards are part of the game. By combining CafeWell with Silverlink’s technology, Welltok can reach a larger group of users and grow its business, the company said.

With the Silverlink acquisition, Welltok will employ about 350 employees nationwide.
