Computer Science Education Week officially starts Monday, Dec. 7, but many Denver and Boulder-area organizations are jumping in this weekend to get kids interested in computers and programming.

In the Boulder area, festivities start Saturday and continue through the weekend. There are events sponsored by many of the area’s kid-friendly tech companies including BitsBox, Sphero (and ), Modular Robotics and . Some businesses, like of their factory.

Boulder takes on Computer Science Education Week.

The kickoff starts at 1 p.m. at the Boulder Public Library with “,” based on the robotic toys from San Mateo, Calif.-based . Most of the events are free, but you may need to register.

Beginning Monday, 1,200 schools, libraries and other businesses and organizations are hosting Hour of Code events in Colorado. The .

The Hour of Code encourages kids to spend at least one hour learning about code. The event is organized by , a non-profit that is also pushing to make .
