Child’s play
Parents don’t want to miss this one-off free day at this lesser known, but no less fun, family-friendly museum. You may not have heard of (110 N. Harrison Ave., Lafayette), but it provides kids with an interactive experience that sparks imagination and inspired learning through play. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from several area preschools, the entire family can visit for free on Dec. 7. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bake sale
A chocolate chip cookie with a glass of ice-cold milk is yummy in our book. Through Dec. 8, is celebrating National Cookie Day by baking and selling chocolate chip cookies for 25 cents each at all locations. They’re available fresh daily, while supplies last, with a limit of three per customer. Sweet!
Sweet time
Smell the peppermint in the air? The sweetest place in town is the Candy Cane Festival at (5735 Washington St., Denver) on Dec. 11 and 12. The free event runs on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sample candy, made fresh before your eyes, during mini-tours of the candy factory. Kids can have their picture taken with Santa Claus, sip hot cocoa, sing-along with carolers and listen to storytellers. There’s also cookie decorating, face painting, a bounce house and games. On Dec. 12, trolley rides and a horse-drawn carriage are also part of the sweet celebration.
Horsin’ around
Downtown Denver receives a holiday treat in the form of a carousel at the open from Dec. 11 to 23. Rides are $3 each, but there are two ways to get a free ride. Shop, dine or play at any of the Denver Pavilions businesses and receive a free ride voucher with purchase. Better yet, in the spirit of giving, bring a can of nonperishable food for donation to the Food Bank of the Rockies for a free spin. The carousel is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Tag, you’re it!
This promo will definitely leave you a bit frosty. customers can get a free Jr. Frosty throughout 2016. All you have to do is purchase a Frosty Key Tag for just $1 at participating locations. Then, every time you visit Wendy’s in 2016, get the sweet freebie with any purchase. The deal pays for itself in just one visit. However, if you frequent Wendy’s often, you could easily save more than $50 before ringing in 2017. For even sweeter savings, it might be wise to buy one for each family member.
General savings
is joining the tradition of offering our heroes a well-deserved discount. The grocery chain now offers both active and retired military personnel an additional 10 percent off their purchases (some exclusions apply) on the first Saturday of the month. Ten percent may not seem like much, but, when it comes to groceries, the discount can easily save $10 or $20 on a single shopping trip, even more for a large family. Proper ID is required at check-out. The discount comes at the end of the bill, after sale prices and coupons have been tallied. Albertsons also offers the same discount on the first Saturday of the month.
