GRAND FORKS, n.d. — Austin Poganski scored two goals and goalie Cam Johnson made 18 saves as North Dakota beat Denver 4-0 in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference game Saturday night.
Poganski scored short-handed and on the power play as fourth-ranked UND (14-2-2, 7-1-0 NCHC) swept the two-game series against ninth-ranked Denver (7-5-2, 3-2-1).
Poganski ended a 13-game scoring drought with a goal in Friday’s 5-1 win for North Dakota.
The Fighting Hawks led 2-0 until Drake Caggiula and Brock Boeser scored 27 seconds apart in the third period.
Nick Schmaltz had two assists, extending his nation-leading total to 21. Schmaltz, Caggiula and Boeser combined for four more points, giving their line 43 points in the eight games they have been together.
North Dakota outshot the Pioneers 37-18. Denver goalie Tanner Jaillet made 33 saves.
Johnson made just three saves in the first period and finished with 18 en route to his first shutout.
The Pioneers host St. Cloud State next Saturday.
Colo. College 3, Miami (Ohio) 2•COLORADO SPRINGS — Hunter Fejes scored just under two minutes into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and give Colorado College its second victory in as many days against Miami (Ohio).
Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Cody Bradley got Colorado College on the board in the second period and Mason Bergh put CC ahead 2-1 six minutes later.
Canisius 4, Air Force 2 •AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Shane Conacher gave Canisius a 3-2 lead midway through the third period and Ralph Cuddemi pushed the lead to 4-2 with a goal.
Air Force’s Ben Carey scored the first goal of the game off assists from Phil Boje and Jordan Himey.
Matt Serratore tied the score 2-2 for the Falcons just 39 seconds before Canisius took its 3-2 lead.
