COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A plan to transform a recently closed coal-fired power plant in Colorado Springs into a public art display has been put on hold.
The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1Qy8VDv ) that the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region has decided to table the plan to drape the Martin Drake Power Plant in LED lights for the time being.
The decision comes less than three weeks after the Colorado Springs Utility board voted to close the plant within 20 years.
Cultural Office Executive Director Andy Vick says the decision was based on the nonprofits scant staff and heavy workload.
Critics of the plan said lighting up the coal plant would glorify the antiquated technology.
