A Denver judge set bond Friday at $550,000 for a 36-year-old man accused of shooting a Denver police officer and carjacking a vehicle at a bank’s drive-through window.

Jason Carl Wood is being held at Denver’s downtown jail accused of , and robbery in connection with a carjacking that followed Tuesday’s shootout.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey asked the judge to set bond at $1 million, which is 10 times the scheduled amount for attempted murder in Colorado, based on a variety of aggravating factors. In describing why the higher bond amount was warranted, Morrissey revealed new details about the case.

Wood, who has confessed to shooting Lopez five times, has previously failed to appear for court hearings three times and has an extensive criminal record, Morrissey said. While shooting a gun at Lopez, Wood fired over the heads of three people inside a car including a child, the district attorney argued.

“He was shot in the leg and ran to a bank and carjacked a car. This is not a man who is coming back to court,” Morrissey said. “He is extremely dangerous, especially to people who wear badges and shields.”

Bond was set at $500,000 for investigation of attempted murder and $50,000 for investigation of three counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of burglary and two counts of assault.

Formal charges will be set next week, said Lynn Kimbrough, Morrissey’s spokeswoman.

Lopez is now listed in serious condition after a third surgery Friday at Denver Health Medical Center. He was said to be in “good spirits,” according to a hospital news release. His family was at his bedside.

“They (family) are very grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and ask for continued privacy to focus on his recovery,” the release said.

No further medical updates will be provided until Monday.

Police say Lopez was shot after pulling over the suspect on Federal Boulevard on Tuesday morning. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots fired.

Wood was treated for a gunshot wound to his ankle. He was arrested Tuesday after a brief chase that followed a carjacking in the drive-through window of a U.S. Bank on the 3400 block of West 38th Avenue.

Police say he was wanted on a warrant in a home invasion case.

Wood has a , including a 2011 conviction after he got spooked by “voices” and fired a shotgun into his bedroom door in a Westminster apartment at around 3 a.m.
