Joey Benik scored with 5:46 left in the third period to break a tie and St. Cloud State went on to post a 5-2 victory over the University of Denver in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference game at Magness Arena on Friday night.

It was the first home loss this season for the 11th-ranked Pioneers (7-6-2, 3-3-1-0 NCHC).

St. Cloud State (13-4-0, 7-2-0-0), ranked seventh, has won nine of its last 11 games.

DU built a 2-0 lead with goals by Dylan Gambrell at 14:01 of the first period and Troy Terry at 2:31 of the second. But St. Cloud State tied it 2-2 at the end of two periods. The Huskies scored their final three goals in a span of 1 minute, 33 seconds.

Western Michigan 7, Colorado College 3

Western Michigan scored four consecutive goals in a span of 10 minutes, 28 seconds to go from a tie to a four-goal victory over Colorado College in an NCHC game at Lawson Ice Arena.

Colorado College (3-14-0, 2-7-0-0 NCHC) scored the first goal of the game, which was the first of Andrew Farny’s two goals Friday, and tied it 2-2 at 14:16 of the second period on Fejes Hunter’s goal. But Oliwer Kaski put Western Michigan (5-10-1, 3-6-0-0) on top for good at 16:35 of the second period.
