Re: “Denver misleads on open space,” Dec. 8 letter to the editor.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. (Kathryn Scott Osler, The Denver Post)
Steve Billig has some valid comments about the lack of open space around downtown Denver. However, open space is not a joke. Mayor Michael Hancock’s idea just came along about 50 years late. Downtown real estate is very pricey, and to wrangle some open space is going to take some innovation, hard work, and maybe a little magic. Whatever it takes, it will be worth it. I see fairly large areas in front of banks and other large office buildings filled with rocks and concrete. Some of those areas could be greened up a bit. It could also take contributions from several builders to develop areas not physically connected to their project.
