No one should be able to buy assault weapons except the military and the police — and maybe not the police. Assault weapons are not used for hunting. They are used for killing human beings. Gun-rights activists use the Second Amendment phrase “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” They do not quote the preliminary phrase, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State … .” Smaller weapons are adequate for personal and home protection.
