James Woods is “happy to be alive” after surviving a multiple-car crash in Glenwood Canyon on Monday. The actor posted a series of tweets after he swerved to avoid a pileup and nearly plunged off a steep drop.

The 68-year-old Oscar-nominated actor tweeted that he slid into a guardrail that stopped his Jeep Grand Cherokee from plunging 100 feet into the Colorado River below Interstate 70 on Monday morning.

He walked away with a mild concussion, he wrote, thanks to his “old tank” of a Jeep. “No deaths. Banged up. Car wrecked. Good to be alive. Glad everybody survived,” he said on Twitter. Woods is more often known for posting his conservative political views on social media.

The accident occurred on the westbound stretch of I-70 in Glenwood Canyon, about which Woods wrote, “No shoulders, 6% downgrade. Two hours later two rigs jackknifed.” The state Department of Transportation confirmed to the Tuesday morning that an accident occurred in which several cars spun out Monday afternoon near the Hanging Lake exit.

This article has been updated to reflect that information on the accident was originally reported by the Glenwood Post Independent.
