COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A Fountain police officer who fatally shot a teenager at the home of the boy’s mother in September has been cleared in the shooting.

The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1lKwC0f ) the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation and found Officer John Kay to be justified in his use of deadly force against 17-year-old Patrick O’Grady.

Kay had responded to the residence of Elizabeth Alvar, who had reported that her son, O’Grady, ran away a few days earlier and took the family car.

Alvar had directed Kay to the upstairs bathroom, where O’Grady reportedly had been inside with a gun.

O’Grady allegedly pointed the weapon at Kay, who fired one shot and struck the teen. O’Grady later died of the gunshot wound.
