Denver police responded to Denver School of Science and Technology Thursday morning on a report of a gun, but investigators found no weapon.
Officials cleared the scene about 11:20 a.m., police tweeted. The school district then lifted the lockout.
The school is near Montview and Central Park boulevards in the Stapleton neighborhood.
Denver Public Schools spokeswoman Marlene Desmond said classes will continue at the school Thursday.
One student reported hearing a conversation about a gun but never saw a gun, said Raquel Lopez, a Denver police spokeswoman.
The police took precautions to clear the school and conduct a search, she said.
“No gun has been seen and, at this time, has been found,” Lopez said.
The school was initially placed on lockdown, according to Denver police. Denver Public Schools later said via Twitter the situation was upgraded to a lockout and all students and staff were safe.
Aubree Brewer, a 12th-grade student, said she is shocked about the possible gun sighting at her school.
“Other high schools have lockdowns every day, but not DSST,” Brewer said.
Aubree’s mother, Doris Brewer, said parents received an email from school Wednesday alerting of a bomb threat that had proven false.
“Now this,” said Brewer, who was dropping off her daughter at school late. “Right now I’m just concerned.”
The two were waiting outside school in a car.
Jujuan Scott-Peterson was also outside the school waiting.
“I just want to take my kids home” she said of her two daughters and niece inside.
