A man was shot in the head and seriously wounded in Aurora on Tuesday morning, police say.

Officers found the man about 10:45 a.m. near the intersection of Iliff Avenue and East Warren Drive while responding to reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Police say the man was behind the wheel of one of the wrecked vehicles.

“He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and in critical condition,” Sgt. Chris Amsler, a police spokesman, said. “He is still alive at this time.”

Investigators are still working to determine if the man was shot before or after the crash, adding that they have not identified any suspects or suspect vehicles in the case.

Amsler said both vehicles involved in the crash had significant damage but that there were no other injuries.

“We are still trying to figure out exactly the circumstances that led up to this shooting,” he added.

Police ask anyone with information on the case or who witnessed the shooting to call Detective Matt Ingui at 303-739-6067.
