A man who allegedly took his 21-month-old son in violation of a custody order faces charges of second degree kidnapping, violation of a custody order and child abuse, officials said Wednesday.

Joseph David Carter, 25, of Dillon appeared in Summit County Court Wednesday, according to a Fifth Judicial District Attorney news release.

Judge Edward Casias set bond at $10,000 and granted a mandatory protection order that precludes Carter from contacting or communicating directly or indirectly with the victims.

Carter’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 5.
