On Tuesday, Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell release a holiday single, a lovely gesture from the dormant indie rock darlings.
Band of Horses is one thing. But now, the unthinkable has happened: frontman and perennial crank Billy Joe Armstrong has apparently been overcome by the holiday spirit, too, releasing a holiday song of his own.
With its resounding major key and sleigh bells, “Xmas Time of the Year” is a straight-forward holiday rock song from the band–almost suspiciously so. If you’re expecting some sly subversion from Armstrong, look elsewhere. He’s really taking the magic in here–“plastic mangers” and all.
