And if there’s anything we all learned about Moe during his productive and wildly entertaining career as Nuggets coach, it’s this: Doug Moe does whatever Doug Moe wants to do.
On Saturday, he wanted to meet the newest Nuggets coach, Michael Malone.
So, after the game he did just that. Moe met with Malone and shared those unmistakable Doug Moe stories along with words of wisdom for the current coach and the rest of the staff.
“After a tough loss on the road, having him come in and spend some time with him was a real treat,” Malone said. “I felt like I knew him because my father and Doug had been friendly for many, many years going back from their New York City days and many days in the NBA. So, anytime you can meet a guy like Doug Moe, talk to him, learn from him — his sense of humor was special for myself and the entire staff.”
Moe’s 432 wins remain the most for any coach in Nuggets history. Malone wasted no time in requesting his presence in Denver at Moe’s convenience.
“I hope he comes up to Denver and spends some more time with us,” Malone said. “I gave him an open invitation. He’s a legend in my mind and it was real nice to have a chance to meet and spend time with him (Saturday) night.”
