The first Friday of 2016 falls on the same day area galleries normally hold their monthly open houses, and you’d better believe owners and artists are looking to take advantage of the confluence — despite the fact that it’s also a national holiday. The River North Art District is touting businesses like aBuzz Gallery, Pattern Shop and the art-friendly Black Shirt Brewing Co. for its 6- 9 p.m. events, while the Art District on Santa Fe’s openings include a noon-9 p.m. open house and group-show launch at Spark Gallery.
