Re: “Fracking foes unveil 11 proposed Colorado ballot initiatives, including a ban,” Dec. 24 news story.
As we enter into this new year, the debate over fracking continues to be as relevant as ever, as eight possible ballot initiatives have been proposed requiring mandatory setbacks for the drilling of wells near homes and schools. I am thrilled that local citizens will have a chance to voice their opinion on the harms and negative effects fracking has on the environment as well as public health.
Rather than focusing on oil and gas production, we need to explore our opportunities for clean energy. Last month, countries convened in Paris and secured a landmark agreement to address climate change through a global effort to reduce carbon pollution. To further our efforts against global warming, we need to vote in favor of more restrictive ballot measures on fracking in the upcoming election.
