
CU-Boulder Professor , known for her colorful, forthright accounts of the West, has been named the new Colorado State Historian.
Limerick, an author, lecturer and teacher, is the director of the University’s . She is also a columnist whose writing appears regularly in the Denver Post.
She assumes the post through a new partnership between the university and , the state agency that runs its major museums and maintains the its archives. Unlike previous state historians who worked primarily in the job, Limerick will continue her duties as a professor and researcher, developing exhibitions and public events.
Limerick is highly-regarded for her practical approach to history and its contemporary implications, a framework established in her book “Legacy of Conquest: The Unbroken Past of the American West.”
She’s a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship and a member of the National Council for the Humanities.
