Interview with Annette Pedersen, owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: After being in retail my entire career, most recently for a large specialty retailer as a regional manager, I began looking for an opportunity to travel less and decided to start my own brand/store. With a keen love for fashion and style, my passion has always been making women feel better about themselves. I began researching the consignment business because designer labels are often coveted and not easily afforded. Thinking about the many women who love to shop and often buy things to wear for one occasion and then hang in the closet, consignment stores offer a chance for merchandise to be loved again.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: At Back in Love, we strive to help women fall back in love with themselves by offering beautiful branded, gently used merchandise at excellent prices and providing one-on-one fashion styling to help her dress her best. In addition, for 2016, we are offering a unique service, called New Year, New Love. For a flat fee, our stylists will edit your closet, coordinating outfits and organizing your wardrobe in the best way for you. We will also take unwanted items, either donating them to charity or consigning them so you can buy more beautiful items. Because we know that you can’t look your best unless you feel your best, we also will be providing a health coach, who will consult with you and provide a week of healthy meals, shopping lists and exercise plans. At Back in Love, we love our community. In December, we hosted a Free Love event, which allowed needy women in our community to shop for free. On two separate dates, more than 60 women and their teenage daughters were able to choose three or more outfits to help them feel better about themselves. The smiles on their faces were worth all of our efforts and we look forward to doing this event again in the spring or summer.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: Making women feel good about themselves, giving back to our community and recycling beautiful merchandise.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: As a new business in downtown Castle Rock, we strive to increase our traffic and entice more and more women to discover us. This takes time. We now have more than 500 consignors and look forward to our traffic increasing as the word gets out.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: Many people ask how we came up with our name. Back in Love means so many things. It speaks about my own internal journey; falling back in love with the love of my life in 2013 inspired our name. The more I thought about it, the name meant even more than that. Back in Love strives to help women fall back in love with themselves and gives beautiful merchandise one more chance to be loved.
