Interview with Daniel Huynh, co-owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: My business partner and I love to travel to eat. During a vacation trip in California, we discovered Taiwanese shaved snow. It was the most delicious dessert we ever had. We decided that we must open up a shop to share this dessert with everyone in Colorado.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: We offer a very niche product. Being one of the first to bring the dessert to Denver, we also wanted every lactose-intolerant individuals to enjoy the shaved snow. We use soy milk as the base, making all of our flavors dairy-free and vegan-friendly.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: What I really enjoy about working at Snowlab is being able to meet new customers and introducing them to a healthy alternative to ice cream and frozen yogurt. We love to talk to our customers to see what they like or what they don’t like and we’ll cater to their wants and needs.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: The biggest challenge right now for us is to survive through the winter months. We initially wanted to open in the summer but our construction permits were delayed. Also, another tough challenge is getting our name out, as not many people know what shaved snow is.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: We make all of our flavors in-house with real ingredients. Aside from the products we serve, our place is equipped with fast Wi-Fi and outlets at every table for anyone to come study or work. Almost everything in the shop is custom-made or bought locally, as we love supporting other local small businesses.
