
1 Seller beware. A staff member at Squirrel Creek Lodge, 8109 Blakeland Drive, Douglas County, reported his car stolen Jan. 6. He sold his Mercedes to an acquaintance for $13,500, but found out the check used to pay for it was canceled the day it was issued. Police attempted to contact the buyer by phone. Several hours later, the car reappeared in the lodge’s parking lot.
2 Scammer gets nasty. A woman living in the 9500 block of Morning Glory Court, Highlands Ranch, reported a phone harassment incident Jan. 4. She said she had been getting calls about lowering her credit card interest rates, but this time, when she told the caller it was scam, he made vulgar, sexual comments.
3 Copper like it’s hot. A company manager said three, $2,000 rolls of heavy copper cable vanished from a house he uses for storage in the 13000 block of Highlands Circle, Highlands Ranch, on Dec. 29. The window to the room where the wire was being kept could not be locked.
4 Online accounting caper. On Jan. 7, a business owner went to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 4000 Justice Way, Castle Rock, to report a company called Few Logics. He was preparing tax paperwork for his staff when his QuickBooks software locked him out, and directed him to Few Logic to buy an update. He wrote a $2,080 check but his software did not update. He canceled the check. (Not on map.)
5 Fast acting thief. A man living in the 10500 block of Kicking Horse Drive, Douglas County, reported his daughter’s Jeep was stolen Jan. 1. He said it was in the driveway at 6 p.m. and gone by 8:40 p.m.
