Greeley firefighters on Wednesday afternoon spent about an hour rescuing a cow trapped after fallen through ice covering a section of a creek.
First responders found the frozen animal after she had been in an 8-foot deep part of the stream — which is adjacent to the South Platte River — for at least 45 minutes.
“A utility rope was secured around the torso of the cow and she was pulled to safety with the help of a Weld County loader that had been working in the area,” the city’s fire department said.
The cow was pulled from the creek with only minor cuts and put out to pasture, the department said. It took eight firefighters to free her.
