A Denver household of five, including an infant, is displaced after losing their home to an early morning fire, officials said.

The fire broke out after midnight at 4750 North Eagle Street in the Montbello neighborhood, said Denver Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Taylor.

No one was injured in the blaze that was originally reported to firefighters as an explosion, Taylor said.

“When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke and fire showing from the entire structure,” Taylor said. “The house is being called a total loss by crews on scene.”

By 1 a.m., firefighters had the fire under control, Taylor said.

The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
