While thousands gather to in downtown Denver, other events Monday also are scheduled to remember the slain civil rights leader.
• More than 50 Kaiser Permanente volunteers will lead a sports field day and obstacle course for 120 kids with disabilities from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood. The field day is part of a larger MLK Service Day hosted by Kaiser at more than 30 locations across the Denver metro area.
• More than 100 Johnson & Wales University students will participate in the university’s third annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Students will provide assistance to local non-profit organizations including the Anchor Center for the Blind, Special Olympics Colorado, Denver Urban Ministries and the African Community Center.
• The Denver Justice Project will hold a public forum with the candidates for Denver District Attorney at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church, 1820 Broadway St. Organizers say the forum will give the Denver community an opportunity to learn about the role the office plays in the criminal justice system and to hear the candidates’ perspectives on issues related to law enforcement accountability, mass incarceration, and racial justice. The event will feature a moderated discussion followed by a time for questions from the audience.
