Through Feb. 14. The artist Roland Bernier, who died in June, was one of Denver’s most respected talents. He had a way with words, as they say, exploring letters as both symbols of meaning and as simple shapes to be explored. Bernier’s skill was to strip objects down to their essence and reconfigure them in ways that were totally new, or “to make something so simple say so much,” as critic Mary Voelz Chandler once wrote in the Rocky Mountain News. Spark Gallery (900 Santa Fe Drive; ) and Walker Fine Art (300 W. 11th Ave.; ) are celebrating his accomplishments with retrospectives. Free.
