Greeley police shot an intoxicated parolee who threatened them with a knife early Monday morning.
The suspect was taken to North Colorado Medical Center in critical condition while undergoing surgery, according to a news release by Greeley police.
Police were twice called to a home on the 1300 block of 16th Avenue on reports of a disturbance caused by an intoxicated man, the news release says.
Police were unable to find the man the first time. The second call came at 2:16 A.M.
When police arrived that first Tasered the man who was armed with a knife.
“The Tasers were apparently ineffective,” the news release says.
The suspect may have stabbed himself in the chest while officers were inside the home.
Police shot the man when he charged the officers with the weapon, the report says.
No officers were injured in this incident.
The suspect has active arrest warrants for felony assault and escape out of the Colorado Department of Corrections.
The 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.
