With the Iowa caucuses next week, it’s worth counting how many candidates of either party have refused to pander to the corn-based ethanol industry so popular in the state.
Just two. Only Republicans Ted Cruz and Rand Paul managed to attract the industry’s ire for failing to endorse continuing the wasteful, costly and ecologically destructive Renewable Fuel Standard, which mandates ethanol be mixed with gasoline.
Donald Trump pandered worse than anyone. According to The Hill, he says blended into gasoline. Trump may say he’s different from other politicians, but in this instance he’s very much the same.
